Mindfulness traditions, concepts, and practices have penetrated what some mental health professionals have described as the “third generation” of cognitive–behavioral therapy (CBT). For example, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) are just some of the therapeutic models informed by mindfulness. Furthermore, the clinical application of mindfulness has garnered increased research attention as revealed by an ever-growing number of publications and conference presentations. Indeed, the journal you are reading now attests to the burgeoning interest in mindfulness by professionals from a variety of disciplines. I might add that the popular press and “self-help” publishing market have embraced mindfulness as a road toward personal wellbeing. …
