Externaliserende en internaliserende gedragsproblemen en kwaliteit van leven bij jongeren met niet-aangeboren hersenletsel

Samenvatting

Inleiding

Deze studie onderzoekt of jongeren met niet-aangeboren hersenletsel (NAH) verschillen van jongeren met cerebrale parese (CP) op het gebied van gedragsproblemen en kwaliteit van leven. Daarnaast wordt de relatie tussen specifieke gedragsproblemen – externaliserende en internaliserende – en specifieke domeinen van kwaliteit van leven onderzocht.

Methode

Participanten waren 22 jongeren met NAH (M lft = 16,7 jaar) en 24 jongeren met CP (M lft = 17,0 jaar). Begeleiders/leerkrachten vulden de TRF en de CP-QOL-Child in.

Resultaten

Jongeren met NAH verschilden niet van jongeren met aangeboren CP in de mate waarin ze externaliserende en internaliserende problemen hadden. Jongeren met NAH hadden wel een lager emotioneel welbevinden en een lagere eigenwaarde dan jongeren met CP. Externaliserende problemen waren vooral gerelateerd aan een lager sociaal welbevinden en een lagere acceptatie terwijl internaliserende problemen gerelateerd waren aan een hogere pijn en impact van de beperking.

Conclusie

De resultaten van deze studie zijn zowel van theoretisch als van klinisch belang. De bevinding dat er specifieke relaties bestaan tussen verschillende vormen van probleemgedrag en verschillende dimensies van kwaliteit van leven, kan bijdragen aan het gerichter inzetten van interventies voor het verbeteren van de kwaliteit van leven.
