Samenvatting

Dit hoofdstuk beschrijft de plaats van ergotherapie in de huidige sociaal-maatschappelijke omgeving. Dagelijks handelen is het kerndomein van ergotherapie en beïnvloedt de gezondheid en het welzijn. Het regenboogmodel laat zien dat naast individuele factoren (persoonlijke leefstijlfactoren en sociale netwerken) ook de samenleving (toegankelijkheid van voorzieningen, sociaal-economische en culturele factoren) van invloed is op gezondheid van de burgers. Naast individuele factoren spelen sociaal-maatschappelijke determinanten op het niveau van de samenleving een grote rol bij gezondheid en welzijn van de bevolking in een land. Daarbij gaat het van rechten van mensen (met een beperking) tot politiek bewustzijn van ergotherapeuten.Het dagelijks handelen heeft zowel een individueel als een sociaal-maatschappelijk perspectief. In de praktijkcontexten van de ergotherapie spelen beide perspectieven een rol. Ergotherapeuten werken steeds meer vanuit het sociaal-maatschappelijk perspectief in en met een organisatie en in en met de burgers in de wijk.De grote lijnen van de maatschappelijke trends zijn op dit moment helder. Veranderingen blijven in snel tempo doorgaan, niet alles is te voorzien. Bij de doorlopende transities in gezondheidszorg, welzijn, onderwijs en arbeid komt een steeds grotere nadruk te liggen op wat mensen zelf met en in hun omgeving kunnen doen. Dit vraagt om ergotherapeuten die opkomen voor kwetsbare mensen die in de knoop raken, van wie de gezondheid hen in de steek laat of die niet voldoende zelf- of samenredzaam zijn. Daarbij is er de noodzaak van samenwerken, zowel vanuit het unieke domein van de ergotherapie als vanuit de professie zelf.
