Eponiemen van fracturen: Deel II: de onderste extremiteit Een medisch-historisch essay

Dit essay vormt het tweede deel van het tweeluik ‘Eponiemen van fracturen’. Ditmaal zullen negen artsen aan bod komen wier namen gekoppeld zijn aan fracturen in de onderste extremiteit. Zoals in het eerste deel is vermeld, worden breuken steeds vaker ingedeeld op basis van algemeen geaccepteerde classificatiesystemen. Echter, eponiemen spelen nog steeds een rol in de naamgeving en het is interessant de geschiedenis van deze naamgevers te bestuderen. Soms blijkt het een geschiedenis te zijn van een opmerkelijke en toevallige samenloop van omstandigheden die ertoe hebben geleid dat de artsennaam werd verbonden aan de fractuur. …
