Samenvatting

Achtergrond Benigne paroxysmale positieduizeligheid (BPPD) kenmerkt zich door korte periodes van draaiduizeligheid na beweging van het hoofd. BPPD komt vooral voor tussen de 50 en 70 jaar, meer bij vrouwen dan bij mannen. In de huisartspraktijk is het een relatief veel voorkomende oorzaak van duizeligheidsklachten. De diagnose wordt gesteld op de anamnese en de proef van Dix-Hallpike. Manipuleren van het hoofd om debris in het evenwichtsorgaan te mobiliseren wordt als therapie toegepast. De meest gebruikte methode is de Epley-manoeuvre.
