Abstract

Reeds in de Oudheid wist men dat flikkerend licht epileptische aanvallen kon opwekken. Alvorens een slaaf werd gekocht, werd gekeken of hij epileptische aanvallen kreeg door kwalijke dampen die opstegen uit asfalt of verbrande geitenlever, door het kijken naar een hond, een arend, een pottenbakkerswiel of naar zonlicht op dansende golven (Troch, 1975).
