1 Epidemiologie van coronaire hartziekten

Samenvatting

Hart- en vaatziekten zijn in Nederland, zoals ook in andere westerse landen, de belangrijkste oorzaak van ziekte en sterfte. Atherosclerotische aandoeningen van hart- en bloedvaten zijn verantwoordelijk voor ongeveer 33% van de totale sterfte. Harten vaatziekten omvatten een groot aantal ziektebeelden waarbij coronaire of ischemische hartziekten een belangrijke groep vormen. Ongeveer een derde van de sterfte aan hart- en vaatziekten is het gevolg van coronaire hartziekte. Jaarlijks worden in Nederland meer dan 60.000 mannen en 30.000 vrouwen in een ziekenhuis opgenomen met als hoofddiagnose coronaire hartziekte. In 2004 werden 24.000 personen opgenomen wegens een myocardinfarct. De gevolgen van hart- en vaatziekten voor de gezondheidszorg worden duidelijk door het grote aantal ingrepen in verband met symptomatisch atherosclerotisch hartlijden. In Nederland vinden rond de 15.000 chirurgische revascularisaties van de coronairvaten plaats. Het aantal percutaan uitgevoerde revascularisaties bedroeg in 2004 ongeveer 28.000.
