Abstract

De gezondheidstoestand en dus ook de situatie van de mondgezondheid kunnen vanuit verschillende gezichtspunten en met verschillende doelen worden beschreven. Zo kan worden uitgegaan van het zogenaamde “klinische beeld” dat vooral bruikbaar is bij (de behandeling van) de individuele patiënt. Een beter inzicht in of een beter overzicht van bepaalde groepen mensen kan worden verkregen door het verzamelen en het beschrijven van epidemiologische gegevens: hoeveel en welke problemen doen zich voor bij welke groepen van een bevolking.
