Emoties van pubers in één dag

Een studie naar affectvariabiliteit en de relatie met persoonskenmerken en probleemgedrag van adolescenten

Samenvatting

In deze studie onderzochten we het verband tussen intra-individuele variabiliteit van affect en psychologisch welbevinden van 178 adolescenten in de leeftijd van 12 tot 14 jaar. Door middel van de Day Reconstruction Method, rapporteerden adolescenten de intensiteit en de kwaliteit van emoties gedurende één dag. Daarnaast werden persoonlijkheidstrekken en probleemgedrag gemeten door middel van zelfrapportage. We analyseerden verschillende kenmerken van kernaffectvariabiliteit op basis van schommelingen in een tweedimensionale affectieve ruimte. Kernaffectvariabiliteit was negatief gerelateerd aan de gemiddelde valentie, vriendelijkheid, zorgvuldigheid en openheid voor nieuwe ervaringen en had een positief verband met neuroticisme, emotionele problemen, gedragsproblemen en problemen met leeftijdgenoten. Bovendien zijn de verbanden het meest overtuigend en consistent aangetoond voor spin, een construct dat schommelingen in de kwaliteit van gevoelens reflecteert.
