4. Emotieregulatie: bidirectionele rol van de zorgfiguren

Samenvatting

In dit hoofdstuk verkennen we de cruciale rol van zorgfiguren, zoals ouders en leerkrachten, in de ontwikkeling van emotieregulatie bij kinderen en jongeren. Aan de hand van het tripartite model belichten we hoe de interactie met zorgfiguren actief bijdraagt aan de emotieregulatie van kinderen, en hoe dit van invloed kan zijn op hun welbevinden en potentiële psychische problemen. We onderstrepen het belang van het bewust maken van zorgfiguren van deze wisselwerking en van hen vaardig maken in emotiecoaching. Door middel van emotiecoaching kunnen zorgfiguren de emoties van het kind helpen herkennen, benoemen, valideren en reguleren. Op deze manier krijgen kinderen en jongeren de gelegenheid om adaptieve emotieregulatiestrategieën te ontwikkelen en flexibel toe te passen, wat uiteindelijk bijdraagt aan een verbeterd emotioneel welbevinden.
