In Responsive School Practices to Support Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning Students and Families, Emily Fisher and Kelly Kennedy examine the unique development and struggles of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) students and parents. The authors encourage educators to recognize and respond to the needs of LGBTQ students and their families using research, recommending curricula changes, and specially tailoring counseling techniques. The authors give educators the tools that allow them to assess their schools’ specific needs. Fisher and Kennedy explain the general theories about the development of LGBTQ students, and convey how their struggles may manifest, be counseled, and be welcomed in school settings.
