Effectiviteit van telefonische coaching om te stoppen met roken

Resultaten bij rokende ouders

Samenvatting

Rokende ouders vormen een belangrijke subgroep binnen de populatie van volwassen rokers. De huidige studie onderzocht de effectiviteit van een telefonisch coachingstraject voor rokende ouders om te stoppen met roken. Rokende ouders werden geworven via de basisscholen van hun kinderen. Vervolgens werden ouders at random toegewezen aan telefonische coaching of een standaardzelfhulpbrochure. Er waren drie meetmomenten waarop ouders en kinderen een vragenlijst invulden: bij de voormeting, bij de nameting na drie maanden en bij de nameting na twaalf maanden. Ouders die deelnamen aan telefonische coaching hadden een grotere kans om te stoppen met roken in vergelijking met ouders die een zelfhulpbrochure ontvingen. Daarnaast gebruikten ouders die deelnamen aan telefonische coaching vaker nicotinevervangers, rookten ze minder sigaretten per dag, ondernamen ze vaker een stoppoging en stelden ze vaker een volledig rookverbod in huis in. Telefonische coaching is een effectieve methode om ouders te ondersteunen bij het stoppen met roken. Zelfs bij ouders die niet gestopt zijn had telefonische coaching positieve effecten.

Alle onderzoeksdeelnemers zijn door de hulplijn gebeld. Mogelijke redenen voor het niet-ontvangen van de telefonische coaching zijn dat deelnemers afzagen van de telefoongesprekken of dat zij herhaaldelijk niet bereikbaar waren en na schriftelijke benadering geen contact opnamen met de hulplijn.

De zelfhulpbrochures zijn door de Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen verstuurd naar alle onderzoeksdeelnemers. Mogelijke redenen voor het niet ontvangen van de zelfhulp brochure zijn onjuiste adresgegevens of andere verzendfouten.

Gebaseerd op het uitgangspunt dat het percentage van deelnemers met een negatieve testuitslag (dus biochemisch bevestigde rookabstinentie) 18-32 (5088,9%) van 36 zal zijn.
