4. Effectiviteit van behandelingen bij acute lage rugpijn

Inleiding

De basis van dit hoofdstuk en van hoofdstuk 5 wordt gevormd door de systematische literatuuronderzoeken die in het kader van de Cochrane Back Review Group zijn uitgevoerd. Deze literatuuronderzoeken zijn aangevuld met gerandomiseerde effectonderzoeken (gerandomiseerde gecontroleerde trials of RCT’s) als die niet in de Cochrane-literatuuronderzoeken waren opgenomen. Betrokken werden Cochrane-reviews en aanvullende RCT’s die een niet-operatieve interventie evalueerden in een patiëntenpopulatie met acute aspecifieke lage rugklachten met een duur korter dan twaalf weken. Onderzoeken met een gemengde populatie van acute, subacute en chronische lage rugklachten werden meegenomen indien de resultaten voor de groep patiënten met acute lage rugklachten apart werden gepresenteerd. De effecten op de belangrijkste uitkomstmaten op het gebied van lage rugklachten werden geëvalueerd. Deze uitkomsten zijn pijn, algehele verbetering, functionele status, werkstatus en gebruik van medicatie.
