20. Effecten van implementatie: het experimentele studiedesign

Samenvatting

Het experimentele studiedesign wordt gekenmerkt door een vergelijking van gemeten uitkomsten tussen twee of meer studiegroepen, waarvan er een is blootgesteld aan een interventie. De andere groepen krijgen geen of een andere interventie. Het toedelen aan groepen gebeurt bij voorkeur op basis van toeval, zodat dit design vaak als gerandomiseerde studie kan worden beschreven. In een goed opgezet en uitgevoerde gerandomiseerde studie kunnen uitkomsten met een relatief hoge zekerheid worden toegeschreven aan de interventie, hetgeen verder gaat dan het beschrijven van uitkomsten of de mate waarin gestelde doelen zijn bereikt. Er is uitvoerige methodologische kennis over het ontwerp en de uitvoering van studies met een experimenteel studiedesign. Ook als dit design niet haalbaar is, biedt het een goede oriëntatie voor keuzes in de opzet en uitvoering van alternatieve designs voor de evaluatie van interventies.
