26. Eetstoornissen en persoonlijkheidspathologie

Samenvatting

Eetstoornissen zijn psychiatrische aandoeningen met ernstige gevolgen voor het lichamelijk en psychosociaal functioneren. Eetstoornissen komen voornamelijk voor bij meisjes in de adolescentieleeftijd en bij jonge vrouwen. De twee bekendste eetstoornissen zijn anorexia nervosa en boulimia nervosa. Hoewel eetstoornissen op steeds jongere leeftijd lijken voor te komen, bestaat de grootste risicogroep uit jonge vrouwen in de leeftijd van 15 tot 29 jaar. In dit hoofdstuk wordt eerst ingegaan op de verschillende modellen die de relatie tussen eetstoornissen en persoonlijkheidskenmerken proberen te verklaren. Vervolgens wordt de comorbiditeit van persoonlijkheidsstoornissen met verschillende eetstoornissen besproken. Daarna wordt de relatie tussen eetstoornissen en persoonlijkheidskenmerken vanuit dimensionale persoonlijkheidsmodellen besproken. Ook komt de relatie tussen persoonlijkheidspathologie en de uitkomst van behandeling van de eetstoornis aan bod. Het spanningsveld tussen behandeling van de eetstoornis en behandeling van persoonlijkheidspathologie wordt toegelicht.Tot slot worden trends en verwachtingen voor de toekomst uitgewerkt.
