Een cognitief perspectief op gehechtheid

Samenvatting

Hoewel het interne werkmodel een kernbegrip is in de gehechtheidstheorie, is de kennis ervan eerder beperkt. Om hierin meer inzicht te krijgen werden enkele studies opgezet. Eerst werd nagegaan of gehechtheid een rol speelt bij de invloed van schadelijke ouder-kind relaties op de ontwikkeling van psychopathologie. Vervolgens werd de inhoud en het functioneren van het interne werkmodel onderzocht. Daartoe werd het interne werkmodel theoretisch gekoppeld aan het schema concept uit de cognitieve psychologie. De studies tonen aan dat het interne werkmodel qua inhoud en functioneren vergelijkbaar is met cognitieve schema’s. Dit heeft implicaties voor de gehechtheidstheorie en de behandeling van gehechtheidsgerelateerde problemen.
