Work still make the man. The Netherlands has a very high labour force participation, in which, on average, we work shorter hours than other Europeans or other world citizens. Five days of twelve hours away from home due to work is an exception rather than a rule in the Netherlands. Flexibilisation of work has been a noticeable trend in the last few years. Flexible employees are sound of body and supple of mind, they keep their knowledge, skills and network up to date and keep track of their income, social security and pension arrangements. That, at least, is the case in an ideal world – which differs for those with high educational levels and for those with lower educational levels. …
