Echtheid in cliëntgerichte therapie

Samenvatting

De therapeutische basishouding ‘echtheid’ wordt toegelicht vanuit verschillende substromingen in de cliëntgerichte therapie: de orthodoxe benadering, waarin echtheid voornamelijk betekent dat de therapeut toegang heeft tot alle facetten van het eigen ervaringsproces; de experiëntiële richting, waarin de therapeut meer vrijheid heeft om zich te uiten en de eigen kennis en ervaring inbrengt in de vorm van procesdirectieven; de interactionele benadering, waarin echtheid als een krachtige confronterende en ontregelende interventie wordt aangewend; en de existentiële substroming, waarin transparantie van de therapeut deel uitmaakt van de persoonlijke aanwezigheid en de ontmoeting. Hedendaagse cliëntgerichte therapie, waarin diverse substromingen geïntegreerd zijn, wordt geïllustreerd bij een cliënt die de diagnose ‘ontwijkende persoonlijkheidsstoornis’ kreeg. De casus concretiseert hoe echtheid in de behandeling uitmondt in specifieke interventies en hoe een krachtig interactieaanbod kan uitgaan van een therapeut die de cliënt onbevooroordeeld en open tegemoet treedt.

Omdat we beiden vrouwen zijn en de cliënt in de casus een man is, opteren we in dit artikel steeds voor ‘zij, haar’ als we spreken over de therapeut en ‘hij, hem’ als het over de cliënt gaat.
