The plan to introduce compulsory postgraduate preceptorship is closer to becoming reality after the last Nursing and Midwifery Council meeting. It is claimed that while the current three-year programme produces nurses ‘fit for practice’, they are not ‘fit for purpose’. To achieve this will take a year, apparently, or 1,800 extra hours.
