Abstract
Abstract. Using a sample of N = 4686 adults (2584 males, 2101 females) and a sample of N = 4382 elementary, middle, and high school students (1959 males, 2379 females), norms (percentiles, T-values, z-values) were determined for the General-Belief-in-a-Just-World-Scale [Dalbert, C., Montada, L. & Schmitt, M. (1987). Glaube an eine gerechte Welt als Motiv: Validierungskorrelate zweier Skalen (Belief in a just world as a motive: Validity of two scales). Psychologische Beiträge, 29, 596–615.]. In the adult sample, belief in a just world covaried with gender, age, origin (East-Germany, West-Germany), marital status, education, and employment. Origin and education had the largest effects. Therefore, origin- and education-specific norms were determined in addition to general norms. Age and gender differences were small in the student sample. Type of school (elementary, middle, high) and grade (5th/6th grade, 7th/8th grade, 9th/10th grade, 11th/12th/13th grade) determined 9% and 12% of the belief in a just world variance, respectively. Therefore, school type and grade specific norms were obtained in addition to general norms.
