Weakenings and Repairs in Supervisory Alliances

A Multiple-Case Study

The “weakening-repair” process in the working alliances of 10 supervisory dyads was examined. Trainees’ level of professional development affected both the type of weakening event and supervisors’ repair behaviors. Other important determinants of this process were the power dzfferential between supervisor and trainee, as well as the evaluative function of the supervisor.
