‘Diseasemanagement’ of ‘welzijnsmanagement’ als oplossing voor onze problemen?

Samenvatting

Initiatieven op het gebied van diseasemanagement, populatiegezondheidsmanagement en innovaties in de eerstelijnszorg zijn nog vooral gericht op klinische en functionele uitkomsten van patiënten en minder op hun algehele kwaliteit van leven en welzijn. In plaats van alleen te kijken naar iemands lichamelijk functioneren, beperkingen door de ziekte en levensstijl is ook aandacht nodig voor de verbetering van zelfmanagementvaardigheden die zorgen voor het algehele welzijn. De zorg moet ondersteunend zijn voor alle problemen die chronisch zieke patiënten ondervinden, die bijvoorbeeld door pijn en vermoeidheid niet in staat zijn een baan uit te oefenen en een volwaardig sociaal leven te hebben. Stimulerend werk en sociale activiteiten zijn voor patiënten wellicht belangrijker dan het meten van de bloeddruk of bloedsuikercontrole. Dankzij interventies die tegemoetkomen aan hun behoeften in ruime zin zouden chronisch zieke patiënten zelf hun welzijn moeten kunnen managen en een achteruitgang in welzijn moeten kunnen voorkomen.
