Samenvatting beleid

Bij gezonde mensen behoeft acute diarree in Nederland geen verder onderzoek indien er geen aanwijzingen zijn voor een organische afwijking in de darmen of voor een infectie bij iemand met een verhoogd risico. Voorlichting en advies zijn dan voldoende. Bij chronische diarree is onderzoek naar een causale oorzaak belangrijk. Is er sprake van diarree e.c.i., dan is het beleid hetzelfde als bij acute diarree. Voor het welbehagen van de patiënt is het belangrijk om het advies te geven voldoende te drinken en te eten waar men zin in heeft. Bij dreigende dehydratie is extra vocht belangrijk, bij langere duur van de diarree eventueel in de vorm van ORS. Indien de diarree erg hinderlijk is, wordt loperamide geadviseerd.
