In Juvenile Offenders and Guns: Voices Behind Gun Violence Diane Marano researched how male juveniles offenders of color, mainly African–American and Latino, are more susceptible to acquiring guns based on their environment and desire of monetary gain. In her research, she focused on the common factors as to why juveniles acquire a gun: power, money, autonomy, excitement, a masculine identity, drugs, and a sense of protection. She presented findings that portrayed real life experiences of young offenders and that revealed what they believed led them to get guns. Her balanced book revealed insightful findings, while also noting that many questions still remain unanswered and that there continues to be a lack of research on how juveniles acquire guns. …
