8. Diagnostiek en behandeling van ARFID

Samenvatting

ARFID is in de DSM-5 bij de voedings- en eetstoornissen een nieuwe classificatie. Kenmerkend is dat mensen met deze stoornis selectief eten en vaak ondergewicht, maar soms ook overgewicht hebben. Door het selectief eten is er vaak sprake van nutriëntendeficiënties. Er bestaan drie verschillende types: het sensorisch-sensitief type, het fobische type en het gebrek-aan-interesse-voor-eten-type. Volgens de DSM-5 sluit de classificatie ARFID andere eetstoornissen uit. In de praktijk kan ARFID met anorexia samengaan. ARFID in de kindertijd kan op autisme wijzen. De belangrijkste behandeltechniek zijn de verschillende vormen van exposure aan voedsel dat de cliënte wil leren eten.
