4. Diabetes mellitus type 2

Samenvatting

Leefstijl speelt een belangrijke rol in de behandeling van diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2). Voeding heeft de grootste invloed, in het bijzonder aanpassing van de inname van macronutriënten. Daarnaast beïnvloeden beweging (kracht en langdurige inspanning), stress, ontspanning en verlies van zelfcontrole (pauzes tijdens werk of bezigheden, beperken van ‘schermtijd’), slaap (goede slaap en slaapritme) en het sociaal-economische systeem van de patiënt de regulatie van de bloedglucose. Dit hoofdstuk richt zich op de gebieden waarmee in de praktijk gewerkt kan worden. Bestaande behandeldoelen en richtlijnen voor DM2 zijn leidend. Zorgverleners en patiënten kijken samen wat werkt en wat niet. Ook patiënten die medicamenteus moeten worden behandeld, hebben baat bij leefstijladvies. Leefstijl en farmacotherapie kunnen elkaar versterken.
