Dermatoscopie is een methodiek die de betrouwbaarheid van diagnostiek van gepigmenteerde huidafwijkingen kan verbeteren. Belangrijk is dat voor het toepassen van dermatoscopie in de huisartsenpraktijk een gedegen scholing noodzakelijk is. Dermatoscopische diagnostiek van huidafwijkingen vindt plaats in twee stappen. Bij stap 1 gaat men aan de hand van specifieke criteria na of het om een melanocytaire laesie gaat. Bij stap 2 diagnosticeert men melanocytaire laesies aan de hand van de 7-point-checklist. Dit laatste algoritme bespreken we omdat het voor toepassing in de huisartsenpraktijk het meest geschikt is.
