Depressie aanpakken door het specifieker maken van persoonlijke herinneringen

Samenvatting

Depressieve patiënten halen persoonlijke herinneringen vaker dan niet-depressieve controles op in een overalgemene vorm. Dit ‘overalgemeen geheugen’ blijkt niet zomaar een bijverschijnsel van de depressie; het gaat om een klinisch betekenisvol kwetsbaarheidsmechanisme onderliggend aan de depressie. In dit stuk geven we een korte samenvatting van het fundamenteel wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar dit fenomeen. Vervolgens belichten we een innovatieve geheugentraining bij depressie die als doel heeft dit kwetsbaarheidsmechanisme te remediëren. Zowel het opzet van deze Memory Specificity Training (MeST)¹ als voorlopige resultaten inzake de effecten ervan worden besproken.
