11. De ziekte van Parkinson

Samenvatting

De ziekte van Parkinson is een neurodegeneratieve aandoening, met zowel motore als non-motore symptomen. Het onderscheid met andere vormen van parkinsonisme gebeurt grotendeels op klinische gronden, soms kan gericht aanvullend onderzoek behulpzaam zijn. De ziekte kent een beloop in fasen. Er kan al lange tijd sprake zijn van klachten voordat de diagnose gesteld wordt, deze fase noemen we de prodromale fase. Het progressieve karakter en wisselende klachtenpatroon per dag, maar ook gedurende de dag, beïnvloeden het leven van zowel de patiënt als diens mantelzorger(s). Kwaliteit van leven voor beiden vormt dan ook het uitgangspunt voor alle beleidsbeslissingen. Deze beslissingen zullen in de vroege en middenfase vooral genomen worden door patiënt en neuroloog, maar de huisarts heeft in elke fase een belangrijke rol, net als diverse paramedici. In de late fase bestaat het medische team vaak uit de huisarts, de specialist ouderengeneeskunde en de neuroloog.
