1. De tanden in ARFID

Samenvatting

Wat is de eetstoornis ARFID (avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder)? Hoewel het geen nieuw probleem betreft, werd deze term pas in 2013 voor het eerst geïntroduceerd in het hoofdstuk ‘Voedings- en eetstoornissen’ van het psychiatrische diagnostische handboek DSM-5. Na het lezen van dit hoofdstuk weet de lezer meer over de ontstaansgeschiedenis van deze eetstoornis, en herkent hij de vele gezichten waarachter ARFID schuil kan gaan. Ofschoon het bij ARFID altijd gaat om te weinig en/of te selectief eten, kent deze aandoening immers verschillende profielen/verschijningsvormen, waardoor het klinische beeld enorm kan verschillen. Daarbij komt de grote variatie aan mogelijke comorbiditeit bij ARFID. Ook zetten we op een rijtje hoe vaak ARFID voorkomt (de prevalentie) en bespreken we de oorzaken en in stand houdende factoren. Tot slot laten wij de lezer kennismaken met de behandelmogelijkheden bij ARFID-patiënten vanaf twee jaar.
