8. De somatisch-symptoomstoornis en verwante stoornissen: relevante neuropsychologische bevindingen voor de klinische praktijk

Samenvatting

Dit hoofdstuk gaat over de somatisch-symptoomstoornis (SomS) en verwante stoornissen en de mogelijke bijdrage aan de klinische praktijk van neuropsychologische bevindingen en kennis met betrekking tot de rol van de hersenen bij deze stoornissen. Begonnen wordt met de belangrijkste kenmerken van SomS en verwante stoornissen. Daarna wordt aandacht besteed aan mogelijke afwijkingen in (het functioneren van) de hersenen en de rol van cerebrale neuronale netwerken. Dan worden verschillende aspecten van neuropsychologisch (dis)functioneren bij deze stoornissen besproken en de mogelijke gevolgen hiervan voor het functioneren van de patiënten. Naast bekende cognitieve functies als aandacht, geheugen en executief functioneren wordt onder andere ook aandacht geschonken aan zelfregulatie, emotieregulatie, affectieve agnosie en affectieve anomie. Vervolgens komt de impact van neuropsychologische klachten en stoornissen bij patiënten met SomS en verwante stoornissen aan de orde en de invloed die deze kunnen hebben op de psychotherapeutische behandeling.
