3. De seksuele-interesse-/opwindingsstoornis bij de vrouw

Samenvatting

Een seksuele-interesse-/opwindingsstoornis bij de vrouw kenmerkt zich door een ervaren gebrek aan seksuele fantasie, initiatief, plezier en/of genitale sensaties. Een gebrek aan seksueel verlangen is de meest voorkomende seksuele klacht bij vrouwen. Volgens de huidige inzichten komt seksuele motivatie voort uit het verwerken van stimuli met een seksuele betekenis in een gevoelig responssysteem, wat leidt tot zowel seksuele opwinding als gevoelens van zin. Geslachtshormonen spelen een voorwaardelijke rol in de seksuele respons, en verschillende cognitieve processen beïnvloeden de verwerking van seksuele prikkels en spelen naast de relationele context en stemming een rol bij verminderde seksuele interesse/opwinding. Anamnese van de vrouw en partner is het belangrijkste onderzoeksinstrument en de behandeling richt zich op het aanwenden van (nieuwe) seksuele stimuli, het versterken van de belonende waarde van seks door het bevorderen van plezierige seksuele gevoelens, het verminderen van negatieve gevoelens en het optimaliseren van de communicatie en intimiteit in de relatie.
