Samenvatting

De perioperatieve specialist krijgt een steeds grotere rol in de zorg voor patiënten in de periode rondom hun operatie. Het vroegtijdig herkennen van patiënten met een verhoogd perioperatief risico, het starten van preoperatieve optimalisatie ruim voor de operatie en het tijdig detecteren van (dreigende) complicaties in de postoperatieve periode vergen een multidisciplinaire aanpak. De perioperatieve specialist coördineert dit gehele proces binnen én buiten de muren van het ziekenhuis. Door deze multidisciplinaire aanpak kunnen het risico op perioperatieve complicaties en ook de impact ervan wanneer ze toch optreden, tot een minimum worden beperkt.
