Samenvatting

Met het ouder worden stijgt de systolische bloeddruk (SBP), maar de diastolische bloeddruk (DBP) bereikt een plateauwaarde op de leeftijd van 50–60 jaar. Hierna daalt de DBP weer, waardoor de polsdruk toeneemt. Boven de leeftijd van 50 jaar is systolische hypertensie de meest voorkomende vorm van hypertensie.
