In dit hoofdstuk zullen de functies van de lever worden besproken. Daarnaast komen de specifieke problemen bij patiënten met leverfunctiestoornissen aan de orde. Ook wordt het classificatiesysteem volgens Child Pugh besproken, dat voor risico-inschatting bij cirrosepatiënten wordt gebruikt.
