Samenvatting

In Nederland worden alle kinderen, direct na de geboorte, routinematig onderzocht door diegene die de bevalling heeft begeleid. Met dit onderzoek van de ‘natte’ neonaat beoordeel je de vitaliteit van de pasgeborene (aan de hand van de APGAR-score) en diagnosticeer je de aanwezigheid van eventueel congenitale afwijkingen. Het is daarom van belang dat je de zuigeling van top tot teen onderzoekt volgens een vaste systematiek. Daarnaast is er aandacht voor het onderzoek van de (acuut) zieke zuigeling, omdat daar de volgorde van onderzoek en specifieke aandachtspunten wezenlijk anders zijn. In dit hoofdstuk wordt het geïntegreerde lichamelijk onderzoek beschreven, gevolgd door de interpretatie en mogelijke betekenis van afwijkende bevindingen.
