Abstract

Gezonde, op tijd geboren baby’s kunnen drinken. Dat wil zeggen dat zij gebruik kunnen maken van een vitaal en complex motorisch proces, waarin zuigactiviteit gecoördineerd wordt met slikken en ademen. Gedetailleerde röntgenologische, echografische en intra-orale videoregistraties toonden aan dat het drinken van de pasgeborene uit de volgende componenten bestaat (afb. 5.1; Ardran e.a., 1958a, 1958b; Weber e.a., 1986; Bosma e.a., 1990; Bu’Lock e.a., 1990; Eishima, 1991):
