De missing link tussen trauma en borderlineproblematiek.

Een benadering vanuit de hechtingstheorie

Abstract

Onderzoek maakt duidelijk dat trauma noch een voldoende noch een noodzakelijke voorwaarde is voor het ontstaan van borderlinepathologie. Dit wijst op mediërende factoren, die de weerbaarheid tegen of kwetsbaarheid voor trauma beïnvloeden. Hechtingstheoretici en hechtingsonderzoekers hebben op dit gebied een belangrijke bijdrage geleverd. Speciale aandacht krijgt het onderzoek naar de intergenerationele transmissie van trauma en de functie van het mentaliserend vermogen in de weerbaarheid tegenover traumatische gebeurtenissen. De specifieke moeilijkheden van de borderlinepatiënt kunnen worden begrepen als gevolgen van de defensieve remming van het mentaliseringsvermogen. De therapeutische implicaties van deze theorie worden kort aangeduid.
