De langetermijngevolgen van mdma-gebruik op het serotonerge systeem, het werkgeheugen en impulsiviteit

Samenvatting

3,4-methyleendioxymethamfetamine (mdma), ook wel xtc of ecstasy genoemd, is een populaire recreatieve drug (De Win et al., 2005; Jellinek, 2007). Er bestaan vermoedens dat het gebruik op de lange termijn schadelijke gevolgen heeft voor het serotonerge systeem en daarmee op fysiek, emotioneel en cognitief gebied (Gouzoulis-Mayfrank & Daumann, 2006a, McCann et al., 2008; Thomasius et al., 2006). Het mdma-onderzoek kent een aantal complicerende factoren van grotendeels methodologische aard, die zijn besproken in Neuropraxis 4, 2009, 83-88. Dit artikel beperkt zich tot een analyse van de gevolgen op lange termijn, vanaf een aantal maanden, van mdma-gebruik op de serotoninehuishouding en twee cognitieve aspecten: werkgeheugen en impulsiviteit.
