De CBO-richtlijn Osteoporose en fractuurpreventie: betekenis voor de bedrijfsgeneeskunde

Osteoporose treft mensen vooral op latere leeftijd. Dat neemt niet weg dat een groot aantal economisch actieve mensen osteopenie of osteoporose heeft. In 2008 bedroeg de gemiddelde leeftijd van de werkzame beroepsbevolking 40,3 jaar. Dat was in 2001 met 38,3 jaar nog twee jaar lager. Door de verouderende werknemerspopulatie zullen meer werkenden met fracturen te maken krijgen (vooral van de wervelkolom), waardoor hun kwaliteit van leven dramatisch achteruit zal gaan. Doordat ook van mensen met chronische aandoeningen de levensverwachting en de duur van het arbeidsleven toeneemt, komen er ook meer werknemers met secundaire osteoporose.1,2
