Misselijkheid en braken komen vaak voor in de palliatieve fase en hebben een grote invloed op de kwaliteit van leven. In dit artikel komen de oorzaken en pathofysiologische achtergronden van misselijkheid en braken in deze fase aan de orde. Kennis hiervan is nodig bij het kiezen van de meest geschikte behandeling, die zo veel mogelijk oorzakelijk gericht is. Naast causale behandeling worden algemene maatregelen en symptomatische behandeling van misselijkheid en braken besproken. Aan de hand van een casus uit de praktijk besteden we speciale aandacht aan de behandeling van ileus thuis.
