14. De Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART-)aanpak: mogelijkheden voor zorgbehoevende ouderen

Abstract

Door het structurele gebruik van middelen die de mondgezondheid verbeteren, is de gebitssituatie bij jongeren in Nederland sinds de jaren zeventig van de vorige eeuw enorm verbeterd. Een van de gevolgen is de toegenomen leeftijd van gebitselementen. Er zijn nu meer ouderen met meer gebitselementen die extra zorg nodig hebben. In het begin van dit hoofdstuk wordt kort ingegaan op de huidige wijze van beheersen van carieuze laesies en de positie die Atraumatic Restorative Treatment, kortweg de ART-aanpak, daarin inneemt. Daarna wordt de stand van de mondzorg bij ouderen beschreven en de mogelijkheden die de ART-aanpak biedt om vooral thuiswonende dentate ouderen van adequate mondzorg te voorzien.
