Samenvatting

Dit hoofdstuk begint met een overzicht van de prevalentie van allergie. Deze is de laatste decennia sterk gestegen, ook in Nederland. Vervolgens komt de basale immunologie aan bod: hoe ontstaat een allergische reactie en welke mechanismen bestaan er om tolerantie te ontwikkelen? Ten slotte worden de termen ‘atopie’ en ‘allergische mars’ toegelicht en kort beschreven. De uitwerking van al deze allergische ziekten volgt in de verdere hoofdstukken van dit kinderallergie formularium.
