De afasie van Broca en Wernicke behoren tot de geschiedenis

Samenvatting

Het Wernicke-Lichtheim schema vormde de basis voor de klassieke afasiesyndromen, die tot op de dag van vandaag gebruikt worden in de diagnostiek van patiënten en het onderwijs in de taalstoornissen ten gevolge van hersenletsel. Uit veel onderzoek is gebleken dat de aard van de uitvalsverschijnselen en de plaats van de veronderstelde locatie van verschillende taalfuncties niet strookt met wat in klinisch en neuroimaging onderzoek wordt gevonden. In dit artikel betoog ik dat we ons zowel in de kliniek als in het onderwijs moeten richten op hedendaagse inzichten in taalprocessen en de onderliggende neurale processen.
