Samenvatting

Diabetes mellitus is een ingrijpende chronische ziekte op de kinderleeftijd. De aandoening heeft voor de adolescent verstrekkende implicaties op zowel korte als lange termijn. Dit artikel behandelt die verschillende aspecten en implicaties.
Diabetes mellitus neemt toe onder adolescenten, onder andere door slechtere eetgewoonten en verminderde lichamelijke activiteit. Jonge diabetespatiënten hebben grotere problemen met de insuline-instelling, omdat de fysiologie van de puberteit het opgroeiende individu ongevoeliger maakt voor insuline. Bovendien ervaren zij de ziekte als een belemmering voor het functioneren in de peergroup. De opgroeiende diabetespatiënt heeft behoefte aan begrip voor deze tweestrijd en aan invoelend vermogen van de hulpverleners. Diverse aspecten van de tienercultuur verdienen daarom bijzondere aandacht bij de adolescent met diabetes mellitus.adolescenten diabetes mellitus chronische ziekten monitoring
