Samenvatting

Dit boek wordt op de kaft door Engelse collegae aangeprezen vanwege de nieuwe manier waarop Mearns en Cooper (hierna: M&C) de focus richten op het wezenlijke van de therapeutische ontmoeting tussen therapeut en cliënt. De auteurs zijn beiden werkzaam aan de universiteit Strathclyde te Glasgow. Mearns is hoogleraar counseling ; Cooper is lector en omschrijft zich als existentieel psychotherapeut. De auteurs stellen met hun persoonsgerichte oriëntatie het concept van ‘de relationele diepte’ centraal. Ze vatten dit begrip op als kenmerk van een therapeutische ontmoeting waarin therapeut en cliënt diepgaande gevoelens van contact en engagement met elkaar bewerkstelligen.
