Samenvatting

Erik Beune deed onderzoek naar het patiëntenperspectief van Ghanese, Creools-Surinaamse en autochtone Nederlandse patiënten met hypertensie. Deze drie groepen bleken zeer verschillende opvattingen te hebben over hypertensie, behandeling en leefstijl ten opzichte van de gangbare opvattingen van medici, die ook nog eens onderling verschillen tussen de drie groepen. Vervolgens onderzochten Beune en collega’s hoe je hierop je voorlichting cultuursensitief kunt aanpassen. Met inzicht in het patiëntenperspectief en met cultuursensitieve voorlichting kun je eraan bijdragen dat patiënten de medicatie- en leefstijladviezen beter kunnen opvolgen.
