Comorbiditeit tussen autisme en depressie nader bekeken

Samenvatting

Een primaire depressie behoort tot de stemmingsstoornissen en kan in de loop van een leven ontstaan. Autisme behoort tot de ontwikkelingsstoornissen en bestaat vanaf de geboorte. Ondanks dat de klinische kenmerken maar een beperkte overlap laten zien, wordt regelmatig een verkeerde diagnose gesteld. Een autismespectrumstoornis wordt dan als zodanig niet onderkend en aangezien voor een depressie waarvan de kenmerken die van autisme overschaduwen. In de etiologie van zowel depressie als autisme kunnen we biologische, psychologische en sociale determinanten onderscheiden.
