Samenvatting

Het kind met coeliakie heeft een levenslange overgevoeligheid voor gluten. Door de ingestie van gluten kunnen er bij personen met de genetische predispositie (haplotype DQ2 en DQ8) autoantistoffen worden gevormd met als gevolg destructie van de darmmucosa en extra- intestinale verschijnselen. De diagnose wordt bij kinderen gesteld door het bepalen van de autoantistoffen en alleen zo nodig wordt een darmbiopt afgenomen. De behandeling bestaat uit een levenslang glutenvrij dieet.
