Samenvatting

Steeds vaker gebruiken verpleegkundigen een elektronisch patiëntendossier (EPD) dat hen ondersteunt bij het verzamelen en vastleggen van patiëntgegevens. Daarmee komt een grote hoeveelheid data beschikbaar voor onderzoek en benchmarking. Maar de elektronische systemen moeten aan bepaalde eisen voldoen en de gegevens die worden vastgelegd, moeten eenduidig zijn. De zorginformatiebouwstenen (ZIB) helpen hierbij. Een ZIB beschrijft nauwkeurig wat gedurende het zorgproces van de patiënt over een bepaald onderwerp moet worden vastgelegd. In dit hoofdstuk zetten we de digitale ontwikkelingen op een rijtje en beschrijven we de mogelijkheden en beperkingen.
